How to Use Brushes
Last Updated: 8th January 2008
So you found some awesome brushes, open them up, and what happens? You don't know how to use them!
It's actually very easy, i'll teach you how to use brushes from an image, and from a downloaded
file.
Image or as a Stamp
1. Open up your brush (if it's NOT downloaded. It should look like a regular image)
Heres the brush that I made and going to use:
2. Now go to Edit>>Define Brush A little new window should pop up. You can re-name
the brush if you like.
3. Now open up your layout, image or whatever your going to put your brush on.
Heres the image that i'm using:
4. Select the brush tool on the left hand side of your tool bar. Which looks like
this:
Now right click anywhere on your layout, image or whatever your printing your brush on,
and scroll down and select the brush you just defined.
5. After you've selected your brush, click on your
layout, image or whatever your using to print the brush on where you want the brush to
be printed on.
Here's my result!
Downloaded File
1. Download your brush, and then unzip the file if it's zipped.
Your brush file should now look something like this:
2. Now open up photoshop and select the brush tool which looks like this:
3. Now look at the top of the photoshop tool bar with File, Edit, Image etc.
Underneath all that should include a miniture thumbnail of the current/last brush you used.
Next to it should be a little black arrow pointing down. Click that. There should now be
a little new window where you can select your brush. At the top of that little window where you can select
your brushes from there should have a little blue arrow pointing to the right hand side.
Click that. Now a whole lot of words or functions should come up.
Select Load Brushes and then find your brush file, and double click on it when you've
found it.
If you're a bit confused (like I would probably be) heres a diagram I made which will
probably explain everything I've just said. (Click to view full size)
Now you can use your new brushes!
Just right click on the layout, image or whatever you want the brush to be printed on,
right click anywhere on your layout, image or whatever you want the brush to be printed on,
and then scroll down, and select your brush.
When you've done that, click anywhere on your image, and viola!
